Sunderland marked their first outing in Alicante with a 1-1 draw and a decent display against Premier League side Nottingham Forest.

Head coach Régis Le Bris will have been encouraged by what he saw from his side against the Tricky Trees on Friday evening, as his new employers watched on. The vast majority of red and white supporters were pleasantly surprised by the performance on Friday night.

Black Cats' owners Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and Juan Sartori were both in attendance at Pinatar Arena having held talks with board members earlier in the day. Louis-Dreyfus' brother Maurice, who also has a seat on the board, joined them in the stands to take in the Black Cats' pre-season tour.

The Sunderland board are understood to have met earlier in the day on Friday to discuss all things club related.

Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman is also present on the Alicante tour, with talks ongoing off the pitch in relation to summer transfer business.

The club were left surprised when a story broke claiming SM Caen striker Alexandre Mendy had chosen the Black Cats as his preferred destination, amid interest from Wearside and Saudi Arabia.

While the 30-year-old forward is indeed a person of interest for Sunderland, it's understood a deal is not quite as advanced as those reports state.

The Black Cats are still weighing up a number of options and a deal for the 23-goal striker is not believed to be imminent.

However, trialist goalkeeper Blondy Nna Noukeu looks set to sign a deal with the Black Cats in order to bolster their goalkeeping department this summer.

Matty Young's departure for League Two side Salford City has freed up space between the sticks, and the Cameroonian shot stopper is out in Alicante with Le Bris side.

His arrival would also open the door for Under-21s goalkeeper Adam Richardson to head out on loan, with a number of National League sides said to be interested in his services after an impressive season with Graeme Murty's side last season.

Richardson is currently out in Italy with Sunderland's second string side.
