Every word from Michael Beale following Sunderland's defeat to Hull City at the Stadium of Light.
Michael, a difficult night?
Yeah. We were the more dominant team in the game, but we lacked a cutting edge in the final third. I think for our possession, the more attempts we had, I think we should do better in the final third. That's on me as a coach. It's on me to find the solutions to that.
Their first corner they score from that, Sunderland had 12?
I don't want to sound like a broken record, cause it's the same as last week. It's an isolated moment in the game and they take advantage of it. We can do better. We didn't. I think even the way we gave away the corner. It's not a great one for us and we have two moments to defend it and we don't. The amount of corners we had in their box, maybe they were putting their bodies on the line. Look, it's fine margins at the moment. The game is kicking us at the moment that's for sure because I felt we were the stronger team tonight. Two teams pushing with the same aim and ambitions, I felt we were the stronger team in the game. We didn't get what I felt we deserved.
Conceded just after a purple patch. Did you feel you had to score in that moment?
I think we started the game quite brightly, it went through a lull, we come out in the second-half and we were in the ascendency again. We get into dangerous areas. We get far more opportunities in the game than Hull. We get down the side of the box. One vs one, stuff like that. We can be a little bit more quicker at times, fill the box with more players and they're the things I'm going to have to improve and it's on me.
I think you could sense the tension and the chants, how difficult is that to deal with?
I think this young group are finding it difficult. It's the first time they've faced it, so I'd ask the fans to get behind them. I get the fans frustration. They can see the effort on the park from the players and any little bit of help, or big help they can give, they have to understand the strength of the help they can give the team. Listen, when you're at home and you're a club like us, you expect to win. We're the same. We're bitterly disappointed.
It's going to be a long week now?
It is going to be a long week but it's the Championship. You have to have the mental resilience and stamina over it. At this moment in time we think the game has kicked us a little bit. We didn't do a lot wrong at Ipswich last week. We didn't do a lot wrong tonight, I think sometimes maybe less is more in the final third. Can we deliver it earlier? Can we get more numbers in there? Can we pass and run a bit more? They're all the things we need to continue working on. As I say, tonight, there's no words that are going to give the fans any comfort or the players int he dressing room. We are bitterly disappointed and we should be because we lost a game, firstly I don't think we deserve to lose. Secondly, we lost it down to a set play where we can do better.
No Jay Matete tonight, is he okay?
Jay is fine we just brought Chris Rigg back into the squad and wanted to go with an extra attacking player. We've got three midfielders on the pitch and we know we can take one out and put an extra attacking player on. I thought Hemir came on and did quite well actually.
Michael not good for you personally to hear your own fans singing about you being sacked?
It's a month into the job as well. It shows the expectation on managers now. Listen, I would say the fans just need to get behind supporting the players and the team on the park because they're a young group and I don't think the fans realise the strength of their support to that group of young players in there. I'll take what comes my way. I take the responsibility of being manager of the football club. It is what it is. You win games, people are happy. If you don't, you don't and they're not. Listen, tonight I felt the result was harsh on us.
Are you on a hiding to nothing because you're not Tony Mowbray and he was well liked here?
It shows that Tony did a good job, the fans are passionate and liked him. That's gone now and that's not coming back now. He's in charge of a rival club in the Championship. He's got a lot of well wishes here at the football club. He's a man I know from coaching against him and on the circuit. He's actually a guy that I like but football has moved on. That decision had nothing to do with me. That was a decision the club made and I've come in afterwards and I'm doing the best with the staff that we've got and this young group. With 18 games to go, we're in a much better position than we were this time last year. I see the positivity around the club. It's a club that a lot of people, a lot of players would like to play in and a lot of people would like to coach. That tells you something.
