Mike Dodds refused to give anything away in regards to who will fill the void left by Dan Neil in the heart of Sunderland's midfield.

The Black Cats academy graduate has been a mainstay in their midfield this season and one of the standout performers in a disappointing campaign.

However, Neil has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign after picking up a 'significant' ankle injury in training last week. There's hope he'll return in time for pre-season but the Black Cats need a solution for the final two games of the campaign.

The decision to drop Jobe into midfield didn't have the desired effect against Millwall, with Callum Styles throwing his hat in the ring in the aftermath of the defeat. The Hungarian international operates in the 'number six' role for his country and will head to the European Championship's in Germany this summer hoping for a memorable tournament.

While Dodds admits he's yet to have talks with the Sunderland loanee, after he revealed his desire to play in the midfield engine room, the interim head coach admits it's something he's considered.

"Potentially," Dodds said when asked if he'd thought after giving Styles an opportunity. "He did go into midfield in the game. He went into midfield in the West Brom game so it's not something that we're completely adverse to.

"I haven't spoken to him this week if I'm honest. My focus has been completely on making sure we got the review process right for Millwall, because I'm sure there was a large portion of the crowd that sat there and thought this is really boring to watch.

"I don't want to stand at the side of the pitch and watch that again if I'm brutally honest. The review period was really important for me.

"Then your attention turns to Watford to make sure that we're miles better than what we were on Saturday. I haven't had a chance to speak to him, but as I said, it's not something we're against.

"West Brom he went into midfield. He went into midfield in the last game so it's definitely something that's on our radar."
