REGIS Le Bris has described Trey Ogunsuyi as a "very interesting player for the future" for Sunderland after the teenage striker played his way into the first team squad.

The 17-year-old was on the bench for the Black Cats for the recent Championship games against Plymouth and Middlesbrough, and although he was an unused substitute, Le Bris said the youngster will have benefited enormously from the experience.

Ogunsuyi has impressed in the youth ranks for Sunderland, stepping up from the Under-18s to the Under-21s last season and scoring twice in the Premier League 2 play-off stages.

And the teenager has caught the eye of Le Bris, who promoted the striker to the first team squad for the trip to Plymouth. And Ogunsuyi kept his place on the bench against Boro, picked ahead of both Abdoullah Ba and Adil Aouchiche.

With Aaron Connolly set to arrive on a free transfer to bolster the forward line, Ogunsuyi will be nudged slightly down the pecking order but Le Bris is reluctant to rush the striker.

"It was a great opportunity for him (to be in the squad)," said the head coach.

"At the minute, he is still a young player who needs to discover more about our environment and the experience of being with professional players. Especially for an away game, it was a very interesting opportunity for him [to experience that].

"He needs time to develop, for sure. But he has many qualities and he is a very interesting player for the future."
