TWO Scottish spots have been named among the 20 best spa hotels in the UK for a wellness weekend.

The list, which was pulled together by The Telegraph, features establishments from across the country, including esteemed hotels like Beaverbrook in Surrey and Lime Wood in Hampshire.

The newspaper said the places listed are proper wellness retreats where "next-level treatments and deeply knowledgeable therapists" are king.

The Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder and The Pavilions and Fletchers Cottage Spa in East Lothian were named among the best spa hotels in the UK by The Telegraph.

The publication praised the award-winning Gleneagles Hotel as a "haven of sybaritic delights" and a great place to try "out alternative therapies delivered by top-notch practitioners".

It highlighted the Scottish hotel's thermal suite, hydrotherapy pool, superb relaxation areas and beauty lodge.

However, the publication warned potential visitors they "may never wish to venture outdoors" because of all the great things on offer.

The Pavilions and Fletchers Cottage Spa was dubbed a "class act" and praised for its "splendidly stylish" atmosphere.

It is said to overlook an "enchanting walled garden," featuring lovely bath huts with built-in log burners perfect for a winter's evening.

While the hotel does not contain a swimming pool, the newspaper assures travellers that they are unlikely to be disappointed because of the salt steam room and lavender sauna which more than make up for the shortfall.

Both spots are well-liked by visitors with users on Tripadvisor giving each hotel a 4.5/5.

Discussing the East Lothian retreat, one person wrote: "Beautiful spa surrounded in stunningly manicured gardens. I had a signature massage from Hannah which was a true delight."

Another person said: "Amazing experience with incredible staff. My wife and I both had treatments here and can't recommend it enough."

A third person added: "Wonderful experience when I visited today. Can't believe I was there for 5 hours relaxing!"
