Sunderland ended their 2023-24 away campaign with an 11th defeat of the season after losing 1-0 to Watford at Vicarage Road.

Sunderland have now scored just one goal in their last five Championship games after wasting a number of opportunities against Watford as the same old problems that have plagued them throughout the season were on show once again in front of goal.

Chris Rigg, Trai Hume, Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts were all guilty of missing big chances for Sunderland in a game interim head coach Mike Dodds believed his side deserved more from as Tom Cleverley earned his first win in charge since being named permanent head coach at Vicarage Road - Watford winning for the first time at home since November in the process.
