The transfer window is now open as Sunderland's search for a new head coach continues.

Sunderland's hunt for a new man in charge hit another bump in the road earlier this week after suggestions of Liam Rosenior being the latest candidate to distance himself from the vacant role amid interest from Burnley. The former Hull City boss has been out of work since the end of the season and held talks with the club before negotiations stalled, with Rosenior believed to be interested in a move to Turf Moor instead.

It means Rosenior is the latest candidate to be considered who looks to have moved on elsewhere, following Will Still and Pascal Jansen who both recently secured jobs in Europe.

It leaves Sunderland still searching for a replacement for Michael Beale almost four months' on from his sacking with the summer transfer window now open.

Sunderland's prolonged search is now having a negative impact on contract negotiations with both Dan Neil and Chris Rigg keen to assess the direction of the club and the new head coach before committing their future at the Stadium of Light.

Queens Park Rangers head coach Marti Cifuentes has emerged as one of the leading candidates following developments with Rosenior but can Sunderland agree a compensation package for the Spaniard? Joe Ramage and Dom Shaw discuss that and the latest on the club's search to appoint a new permanent head coach as well as the future of both Neil and Rigg.

And with the transfer window now open and just eight weeks until the start of the 2024-25 Championship season, there is a look towards what already feels like a significant summer for the club when it comes to their recruitment, with a number of key positions to be addressed.
